in black and white

I can't get enough info on Sammy Davis Jr. I just finished the book In Black and White by Wil Haygood. Please go out and buy it so we can have Sammy discussions. I only want to talk Sammy. All Sammy all the time. I am at home in San Diego getting ready for my excursion to Australia. I finished the book and I have a cold and I was crying at the end of the book and Sammy's last days. The author of this biography did such amazing painstaking research. I felt like I got a history lesson on vaudeville and New York theater and Harlem and on and on and on.

I leave for Sydney on Monday and I can't wait to drive on the wrong side of the road and see old friends and drink cold cans of Tooheys.
Buy your tickets and come visit me in Australia. I hear that Quantas is running a special.
I just bought a new g4 powerbook from Apple so I will now be having fun making up some songs on garage band. yee haw!!!

Cheers mates,
Stevey Poltz

Steve, can you bring me a Vegemite sandwich?

I saw Sammy live with the Cos at Harrah's Tahoe many years ago--He sang "Mr. Bojangles".

Okker: "You call that a knife? THIS is a knife!"
Bart: "That's not a knife--that's a spoon!"
Okker: "Ah, I see you've played 'Knifey-Spoony' before!"

Hey Steve,
I didn't know (sammy) you sat three rows behind my sister in math class...........
Beth just emailed me your website info. Steve (Bub) and Keith had mentioned (sammy) it before but I didn't take the leap til now.
She didn't know (sammy) I was already aquainted with you - just figured you sounded about as crazy as (sammy) me and thought I'd like your stuff.
Have fun down under - I'm flying to Dallas day after you leave then driving (sammy) the semi up to Kansas City to do a Good Friday show for Benny Hinn.........YEE HAWWWW!!

Dear sweet sfuffy sentimental Steve, Sorry you have a cold... but I think it's so romantic that you gave it to me.
Yes, I know I haven't seen you since the Ramona show, but I feel like I'm coming down with something and I want it to be from you. Mkay?
Safe travels.

Hey Steve.... can't wait for you to visit Perth again... I had the BEST time at your last show at the little ol' Fly by Night club... can I take you out drinking after the show this time? As a uni student I know a few good spots in Freo/Perth. I'm sure the beautifully sunny weather over here is going to work wonders on your cold... see you soon :)

Dear Mr. Poltz,

I saw Sammy Davis Jr. at the Sports Arena when I was in Jr. High. It was Jr. it wasn' was a field trip. I sat next to my best friends, Sherry Smiles and Robert DeLeon. I liked Robert's older brother but, he wasn't there....he was way too cool, but later in life I hear he got really fat. Now that's going to happen to me because I said that. I think it's starting now....yes...I'm fatter now.

I wish I could see my drama teacher again to thank him for making that experience possible. I remember what he looked like, but I dun firgot his name. He was cool. I did a Pointer Sisters sort of fast speed Karaoke rendition of 'Smiling Faces' with Sherry and he liked it so much he said it didn't matter what we did the rest of the year we had an A in his class. For all of that you'd think I'd have the decency to recollect his name.

Sammy was Superb. I have aspirations to obtain his skinny thighs....well not 'his' in a literal way, but...

Have fun in's bound to happen as long as you don't stumble into a pack of dingos. Ding-bats are ok.
