I played a cool show in Oregon at this wonderful venue called Mississippi Studios. It is a combo recording studio and live music establishment owned by this sweet guy named Jim. He used to be in a band named Box Set. I remember playing a Rugburns gig with them years ago at Slims in San Francisco.

The picture above is of David Garza on the left and Steve Forbert in the middle. I shared the bill with David Garza (pronounced Dahveed) and we had a hoot of a time gosh doggit. It was my first time to really hang out with him and I love his music. I hope you guys get a chance to see him. His songs are brilliant and so is his personality. I am so glad I got to bond with him and tell stories. We even played a couple songs together at the end of the night.

Steve Forbert played the night before and left his sunglasses so he came back to pick them up. I freaked out because I had his early albums on vinyl when I first went away to college. He was labeled as the new Dylan back in the early
80's. He is a songwriter's songwriter. Listen to Romeo's Tune and it will strike a familiar chord.

By the way... Last night's show was recorded by Jim (the owner of the venue) so if you would like to purchase a copy then go to his his website and contact him. He will ship it to you for 15 bucks. It is a double cd.

The website is

The Padres are officially out. The Cubbies did a nose dive worthy of Greg Louganis and The Dodgers held on by the skin of their teeth to beat out The Giants on a walk off grand slam by Steve Finley. My dad is so freakin' happy. He called me and left the funniest message. I think he was dancing around the house in his undies banging pots and pans.

Don't forget to vote. November will be here before we know it.

One Happy Camper

Steve, you have the coolest life I could imagine. You travel around the country singing your songs, everyone (including me) knows all the words to everything you've ever recorded, you get to see small and big America and meet all the big rock stars, everyone buys you drinks all day long, you can go to any city in the country and there will always be enough people that know your music to fill up a room, you never have to stay at hotels because everyone would let you crash at thier place... hell you could trash thier house and they would still feel honored to have you there. Right now there is someone in the country wearing a tshirt with your name on it. Someone is listening to chinese vacation right now, someone else is listening to taking the world by donkey. Hundreds of people have stayed up late at night with their guitar trying to figure out how to play "tree hugger" or "kilkenny man". Right now you could go on any file-sharing network and download any of your songs. You've got the coolest fucking life I could ever imagine, and every hard-working 9 to 5 sucker in the world would envy to be in your situation. When is Answering Machine II coming out? Which will come out first, a new Steve Poltz CD or a new Rugburns one?

Posted by: drunk at October 6, 2004 6:51 PM

Yes, drunk, who ever you are... you raise an interesting point... WHEN WILL ANSWERING MACHINE 2 COME OUT?

Posted by: carence at October 6, 2004 10:21 PM

Dear Seanty,
I think you smell too, but I find it rather pungent and unpleasant.
Now shut up and behave.
