the new cd, baseball, life and cereal

cartoon23.jpg

Well I'll be a cereal eating fool. The new CD is in its final stages. It was a labor of love and now I am trying to decide on a release date and stupid business things that drive me batty. Should it be a double CD? Or, should I release it as a single Cd and then release more tracks later? In today's ADD age people don't seem to have the attention span of the old days of vinyl records and double LPs. Today the people just pick a couple songs and download them. I ask folks all the time if they buy the whole CD on iTunes or whatever music source they use. Most everyone I ask tells me they only buy a couple od songs unless they are totally devoted to an artist.

With me, if a Celine Dion CD is released I run to the mall and buy 8 copies. Just in case there is a nuclear war, I want to have extra copies of that French Canadian's warblings. I loves me some Celine. But that's not what I'm here to talk about, what I want to know is if you cats will still buy a whole Cd or is it better to drop 10 to 12 tracks at a time like bird poop? mmm bird poop. I'm getting hungry.

The Padres love me and I love them. Why can they beat the Cubs all the time and lose to the Diamondbacks all the time? This game frustrates me to no end. Why do I care? I don't think they care about me if I screw up a D minor diminished 7th chord. They wouldn't give a bird poop if I forgot the word to a song. But god forbird they forget how many outs there are in a game. I will scream at the TV until the neighbors complain and the cops arrive. The 2006 Padres are a pretty damn good team. I will go on the record with this. They play great defense and their pitching has been pretty damn good.

Life is sweet and crunchy in a bowl with milk. It is probably bad for me but I like it. Does anyone else out there eat it? Has anyone seen the movie The Devil and Daniel Johnston? I liked it so much that I am going to go see it again tonight. Thanks for the fun times last weekend in San Marcos Texas. The music festival was fun and I met some great humans.
peace,
Steve

I'm pretty sure I'll buy the whole CD - and I vote for a double CD particularly if it includes Medical Career...???

My favorite cereal is now frosted mini wheats as I got one (yes, just one) on my mothers day breakfast tray. There was no milk so it was alot like a "got milk" comercial only it was in my bed so there were no cameras...or were there??? :-)

Posted by: Poppylady at May 17, 2006 9:32 AM

I am so devoted to you I will buy one whole CD and ask for one whole review copy since I am your second or third most devoted journalist friend in the semi-literate Far-Western World. Yes, I have seen the Devil & Daniel Johnston and of course you love it. Which only begs the question: when are we hitting the Huddle together?!

Posted by: Will K Shilling at May 17, 2006 9:44 AM

oh will!
so nice to hear from you. the huddle yes. we shall go eat. i am in austin finishing the cd. you are my favorite journo and you shall have a copy soon.
copy rhymes with poppy.
hi poppy. i like frosted mini wheats too.
should i record medical career?
i thought the peeps were sick of that song.
i think i did record it.

Definitely 2 CDs now, cuz knowing you, it will be years before we get a second CD, and then folks will go into withdrawls like before! I'm all about listening to a CD all the way thru, and I love reading all the liner notes and lyrics. I can hardly wait for the new tunes - the preview I got last month from you has my mouth watering for more.
xoxo,
Regan

Give the people what they want, MORE POLTZ, so 2 CD's is better then one.

And thanks for you know what :)

I am signing off to go have cereal, alphabet, so I can spell out contract terms while I eat.

love ya

Posted by: Roggie Baer Elm at May 17, 2006 10:49 AM

it's hardly fair that copy rhymes with poppy but hardly anything rhymes with steverino...portafino. wow, i'm good. hi steve.

i recall the very first time I heard Medical Career at Java Joes, cried and lost my heart to you. I, for one, am not sick of that song. i'm glad you recorded it. there aren't enough songs like it. unless you count all of Celine Dion's. what's with you Canadians? ;-)

Posted by: Poppylady at May 17, 2006 10:50 AM

Dear Seven Doltz,
I don't think 2 cds is nearly enough. Since your name is Seven, I think you should provide us with 7 cds. If you do, I'll provide you with 7 dolts. Chinese Checkers? Is Chinese Checkers on the new album? I love the way your voice sounds on that song!
Hey, is it okay to say, I miss your face?
Cuz I do.

p.s. I primarily download full albums. I only download one track at a time for stuff like Kung Fu Fighting or that cat and sweater song by Keith Urban.

Posted by: Tussy at May 17, 2006 11:50 AM

Cereal is a good thing . I had a defective bowl of alphabets this morning = all "o"s . Wait a minute , I think it was cheerios . Does Cheerios rhyme with Stevearinios .
I will not only buy a double CD , I will insist that all of my friends do the same . That's 3 copies right there.
It is my Burfday on monday , will you write a song for me ?

Posted by: matt at May 17, 2006 11:51 AM

Thanks for sharing the new stuff with me.
Food was good, company was great! Music is Amazing! (kudos to billy as well!)
Definitely double disk release.
22 tracks ... 2 years of a journey...when this is released, so will you be...
Here's to the joy, the pain, the journey...here's to the new adventure!!!

Posted by: heather at May 17, 2006 12:57 PM

You've got a lot of nerve. Axl Rose has sold millions, maybe even BILLIONS of albums, and he's up on 10 years between records. He's just getting ready to finally release Chinese Democracy, and now you swoop in and start stealing his thunder. Well, as an attorney who's never represented you, I suggest that you think carefully about who you pick your next celebrity feud with and on what grounds. Axl is from Indiana- he's ornery as hell. As hell, I tell you! If he finds out that you're trying to big time him by releasing your next album before Chinese Democracy, it's safe to say that it's on. I think he's a Dodgers fan. Or whatever baseball team people from Indiana like. The Indiana Indians? Ha ha! What a stupid name for a baseball team! The Indiana Indians! Hah! Don't they know that Cleveland already calls their team the Indians?!?! STUPID FACES!!!

Posted by: Westy at May 17, 2006 2:04 PM

Down with downloading, up with double-disc releases, and death to Celine Dion! Also, I have no idea why anyone gives a rat's ass about baseball, and I have not seen The Devil and Daniel Johnston. I did see Art School Confidential last weekend, though, and it took me right back to my days as an art major in college. Good stuff. Not great, but good.

Posted by: Frag at May 17, 2006 2:06 PM

Hey Steve,

Good work on the new album, any chance of a concert in Holland soon? I really miss your face around here ;)

I'd buy the whole cd and if you're even thinking of releasign a "collectors edition" with a couple of extra tracks or a live cd addon, please let us know beforehand. I always hate it when I go and buy the cd again, just for the extra tracks, but I just can't leave them lying around, begging to be heard.

The Dire Straits once released an album in a flip open double cd case, but with just one cd. Teh second cd was actually a single with 5 more tracks that was released a few weeks later. I wouldn't mind such a construction. (I believe it was Encore + On the night).

Posted by: Jesse Houwing at May 17, 2006 2:24 PM

dear steverino our little palomino (aka, stud), another vote for a double cd! you know we're all totally devoted to you and will buy and listen to the whole shebang.
medical career rocks... could never get sick of it. how 'bout some abc's of love, every hour every day, and what would ghandi do too?
hey, life is my favorite cereal... used to even have a life bib as a wee child.
matt, there's nothin' wrong with multiple "o"s, but you're a guy, right? oh, is this the matt we keep seeing in pics w tlw... hmmm, that might explain it.

steven -

his forum is starting to resemble the white house. you may as well hire fox correspondents to give the brief, and you are a self-proclaimed boxer man. if you want honest opinions from the minions you're going to have to start stealing phone records and instigating non-partisan polling practices. good luck young man - my dukes say a double disc or it's yer skinny arse.

~ash

p.s. to the producer - ( in my completely biased opinion) IF a second disc is stamped i love ya should finally have a home. pleeeeeeze, with extra sugar on my grapenuts?

Posted by: ash at May 17, 2006 6:11 PM

i think you should make the top of the cd out of cork so if it sucks, i can use it for a coaster.

Posted by: pedro at May 17, 2006 7:58 PM

Double CD with big-ass gatefold cover art, complete lyrics and dot-to-dot pictures--damm the trees, anyway!

Faves:

Cocoa Pebbles
Cap'n Crunch's Peanut Butter
Freakies(remember those?)
Turbo Bran

Remember Santa Barbara, Steevio! And Medical Career would be shweet, too. And maybe Three Hits In A Row, for Coachy Bochy.

Posted by: Rev. Spankalot at May 17, 2006 8:32 PM

What amusing shape would Steevi-Os cereal be?

I'll let da ladies handle that one.

Posted by: Rev. Spankalot at May 17, 2006 8:35 PM

The Devil and Daniel Johnston...no. The Devil in Miss Jones? Yes. That Max Devlin movie? Yep. Devil's Advocate? No. Do I read the Advocate? Uh-Uh! Do I like Avocados? Only in guacamole. Have I ever been to Guam? Not in this lifetime. Have I ever stepped in gum? Many times. Oh! Oh! About the CD. Make it CDs! Plural! 2! Or more! Oh, how I love to pollute the soundwaves with the glorious sounds of as many Poltz & 'Burns songs as possible! That whole ADD thing? Sure we have it (thanks to albums like answering machine), but that's the perfect reason to release 2 CDs. We won't quickly tire of them with so much new stuff. Like I ever tire of any Poltzerriffic stuff! Donkey is still one of the most oft played discs in my stereo! By the by... I SWEAR, I don't think I have ever downloaded a single song to disc! SWEAR! Pathetic? Oh, well!

Posted by: Jamie the cat guy at May 17, 2006 8:46 PM

One more thing... Life? Grape Nuts and Fruity Pebbles is where it's at, yo.

Posted by: Jamie the cat guy at May 17, 2006 8:48 PM

I bought 6 copies of "Chinese Vacation" for variouis friends, so I recommend a double album so you make more money off of me. Thank you.

Posted by: Ovitz at May 17, 2006 9:37 PM

Double albums suck UNLesS there is 2 cd's. Cos then i can listen to 2 different albums playing in three different ears. Fuck anyone who doesnt get the whole cd or download (legally) all the songs... cd's should be made so you can listen to every song at once (backwards) So yes... come forth with the double record, but only release it on cassette, as it has great quality sound and only gets better with years. oh yes and you should play them in aussie land with me and a beer looking out over the valley on a clear sky night in late JULY? and yes, we shall tune them well into the morning backwards. Love and Masturbations...

Posted by: Deano at May 18, 2006 3:06 AM

Cereally, Bill eats Life. I presume that is better than Life eating Bill. Although, in some cases, Life has taken a bite out of the old man. Except for Cinnamon. He doesn't dig the Cinnamony goodness in his cereal bowl.
Does that help?

P.S. If I'm ever aboot to be sued by Axl Rose, I want Westy, with all the letters after his name, in my court.

Posted by: Tussy at May 18, 2006 3:43 AM

Double CD.

People who only download the singles or a song here or there are stupid. You don't want stupid people listening to your music anyway.

Double CD.

I'm coming to Austin tomorrow. Will you sill be there? Wanna have some tea?

Posted by: Carence at May 18, 2006 10:04 AM

I stopped reading at attention span. hey, what's the first single going to be?

Posted by: sean at May 18, 2006 11:57 AM

i like how you said,

"IF i forgot the words to a song." is it not more like WHEN?

i love you and baseball long time. not much beats the the mlb extra innings cable package. hearing vin scully call a dodgers game is as good as it gets michael. i also get to watch your beloved padres and that female member of their training staff. keith hernandez is the new fuzzy zoeller.

best wishes,
mitch

I've never bought on iTunes or anything like that.

I always buy full albums and make the most of them. Even on my iPod I don't put it on shuffle, instead choose an album and listen to it.

Go the double album. You'll make a sale here.

Then do an album release tour back to Australia!

Posted by: richo at May 18, 2006 6:33 PM

I vote for the Double!
Charge more for it......I don't care.
I just want more Poltz!!

TV in AZ

Posted by: TV in AZ at May 18, 2006 7:27 PM

Hmmm, I'm just thinking that because we're all here visiting your web site that just maybe, perhaps, you might sorta, kinda, all most certainly, get a responce that is maybe a little, itsy bitsy, tiny, teeny weeny bit skewed. . . But who cares! Give us a triple, diple album! GoooooOOO Steve!

Posted by: aussie!! at May 19, 2006 12:50 AM

I don't care. Just something. Anything. Give it to me, and I'll soak it up. As for pesky busines matters: good business sense would see you releasing in Australia first. I have no credentials to back this finding, you'll just have to trust me.

Posted by: Maplestar at May 19, 2006 4:26 AM

hell steve...i say just trash the recording. nobody gives a crap anyway.

i say you devote the rest of your career to kid's jingles and illustrations of how said kids pick there boogers and eat them.

If it is a double CD I'll be 4 of them! If you release a single CD now I will be forced to bootleg it off of Kazaa!

Posted by: deadeyedicky at May 19, 2006 11:06 AM

I'd buy the whole CD, and any extras. I'd appreciate a full length if not a double CD too. How do you know if you like the song until you have a listen?

Posted by: shanna at May 19, 2006 12:18 PM

hey steve
long overdue, but i would most definitely buy the whole cd. especially if it were a double! make it a double... do it!

Cheers,

Posted by: Mark at May 25, 2006 11:16 PM

Double CD! I like them pop-tarts, and they come two in a pack.. I like the chocolate ones.. with the frosting and springkles.. I say Medical Career as well! A single c.d. would be so 2005.. cut loose in 06 with a double and make us all giddy!

Posted by: fred van vactor at May 26, 2006 9:27 AM

I vote double cd but I'm out of the loop I have no idea what the whole thing is about, concept album or what not...I know you love concept albums...ok I'm out before I say something stupid...again.

Posted by: Maximilian Belushko at May 26, 2006 12:28 PM

I vote just 1 CD. If you do a double, it'll have about a CD worth of songs that really suck.

So, please spare us and release a single CD that rules....not 2 that kinda rule.

Posted by: JohnnysCousin at June 5, 2006 1:16 PM

Oh...and I'll see you in Chicago soon. Right?

Posted by: JohnnysCousin at June 5, 2006 1:18 PM

Hey Steverino,

Make it a double. Shaken not stired.
Pretty pleeze with cherios on top.
Acutually I prefer Wheetbix, know what they are? Or are they just an Aussie thing like Vegimite. I am not sure.
If you do make it a double the pleasure, double the fun, double CD then pleeze dont make it one of dumb arsed fandangled fold out pieces of crap CD cases that dont fit in case racks. They completely suck.
A good song to be had for the 2nd disc would be the cover of Waterfalls that you did on the Live at the Basement DVD, which was my introduction to everthing that is Poltz. That is the best cover song ever produced. The original was great, but your cover was 100 times better... man I miss Cleo and the Basement gang... they were as freaked out and cool as you are.
....hmm back on topic Rossco.. umm pleeze make it a double CD Mr Stevie.

Posted by: Rossco at June 9, 2006 7:15 AM

"If you look closer, it's easy to trace the tracks of my Poltz." You give all tracks---NOW!! Lightning's gonna strike you any day, and then wherer will we be?

Posted by: Brad Da' Cookie Guy at June 19, 2006 12:12 PM

I vote a double. Or if you do one, do another one eight weeks later. That way we don't have to wait as long.
And it's always cheaper on itunes to buy the whole dang cd. But if there's only one good song, then just buy the one good song.
Mmm. I want some cereal now. with steamed chocolate soy milk on it. yummy.
