Happy Birthday Joe Poltz

pop-in-water23.jpg

So ya say you were born on March 12th eh? Well here's a cool pic of you in The Canadian Royal Air Force on survival practice. I found it and scanned it so all the people in the world could see you in your glory days. This is going to be your lucky year. Double sevens is a winning combo. Happy Birthday and I'm glad you quit smoking years ago. This planet needs you. You're way hotter than Justin Timberpond.

What a blast was the city of Toronto last weekend. I saw cousins that I didn't even know I had. 2 great shows and I shall be acquiring a Canadian booking agent right quick and spending a bit more time in the land of my birth. Have you ever had a moment that you wish you could bottle? And then take it out on a down day and drink it up? I had one of those moments in a cab ride back to my hotel on Saturday night. I was with Hardy Mcbee from my mgmt. and we hopped in this 60 year old Chinese guy's cab. He didn't speak english that well and I was singing a Bob Dylan song as I sat down in the back seat. "you're gonna have to serve somebody. It might be the devil, might be the Lord but you're gonna have to seeeerve somebodyyyy." In my best Dylan drawl. All of a sudden the cabbie turns around and starts singing the next verse word for word. He sings to us "You may be a construction worker working on a home,
You may be living in a mansion or you might live in a dome,
You might own guns and you might even own tanks,
You might be somebody's landlord, you might even own banks
But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed!"

Then he he puts in a cd and it's Dylan singing Tambourine Man. So we all start singing together at a red light and then, get this; he pulls out a tambourine from under his seat and is banging on it while he drives! Finally when he gets to our hotel we don't get out. We just stay inside with our arms around each other singing "hey mister tambourine play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm a goin' to..."
I swear I had goosebumps and never wanted the moment to end. Chinese Dylan. Freaking cool I tell you. Freaking cool.
Happy Birthday Pa.
Thanks cousins.
Austin Texas and SXSW here I come.

Happy Birthday, Joe! If Tom Brokaw ever saw that picture he'd put it on the cover of his next book and call it "The Greatest Canadian." I'd buy it. Then I'd read it on a plane and try to be showy about it so everyone knew I was reading about you. And when they asked me if it were a good read, I'd snap at them and say, "Joe Poltz is a personal friend of mine! Buy your own copy, you bounder!"

Many happy returns,

Joe D.

happy birthday, papa poltz!!!! thanks for the poems and for that son of yours. I've learned quite a few things from him, which by the transitive property means I've learned quite a few things from you. we skipped over the transitive property. hope it's a great year for you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAPA JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's the greatest photo ever, Stevie.
I certainly could appreciate the Dylan sing-a-long too! WHAT FUN!!!!!!
I wish I could have been singing along with ya'll!
I've only been to Canada once, Montreal.
I have always wanted to visit Toronto and see a good hockey game and have some FUN!
Glad you enjoyed yourself and had some awesome family time!
My mom & step dad are visiting from North Carolina (they were in town for a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale).
Family is a beautiful thing.
So glad you are enjoying yours.
xoxo,
Mindy

Steven my love, if you ever decide you would like to write a book, I would glad be your editor and assist you. You make me smile on days when I really want to give up hope in society. Your stories are amazing. I really do think you should write a book about your gypsy lifestyle. ;)
