shoe shopping with peter buck

I was in NYC the other day shoe shopping and there was Peter Buck. I have always loved his guitar playing in R.E.M. and I met him once in Seattle. He told me he was a fan of my cd Answering Machine. How strange is that? So we looked at shoes together for a short spell and talked about shoe soles and boots and leather and homadey shoes versus factory shoes. I like homadey shoes I told him. Then he had the security in the store come and kick me out. But not before I had this pic taken.
Ok seriously, I really was more than a little star struck. I love his jangly guitar sound when he rocks the Rickenbacker 12 string. He was so nice and really does like Answering machine so in honor of this moment I am including the song Shoe Shopping for your listening pleasure. Pleasure? Is that the right word?
I invited him to my show at The Tractor Tavern in Seattle so maybe he'll show up. Then again maybe not unless he brings the police with him. That would be cool. The Police. Sting and Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. Spread the word now! The Police and Peter are playing with me at The Tractor Tavern in Seattle. I think that Neil Young is showing up too with some homadey tortillas and Lyle Lovett in tow. I rule! It's time I wake up and smell the cat food in my bank account.
Cheerio,
Steve
P.S. here is the song. Listen Here!
to sing along use an English accent and say:
Do you wanna go shoe shopping with me?
I own a new Sears charge card can't you see?
We'll buy some black leather boots
don't ya wanna go shoe shopping
with me? ahhhh
Do ya wanna go shoe?
wanna go shoe?
shopping
with me me me me me!

wow. i was playing Eponymous last night on my way home from a successful work party…bought tix to see peter buck with robyn hitchcock next month. THEN I check in at poltz.com only to find THIS! weird.
you have the best stories…cute smile…are you smitten? :)
btw, awesome jacket….is it a photoshopy version of that pin-stripe nubmer b/c eddie murphy comes to mind…
”that's BEAUTIFUL, what is that?…..VELVET?!” :)
weirder still...I just met buck tuesday night before the robyn hitchcock show. and he was wearing shoes. coincidence...?
yeah, probably.
Cool! You meet all the best people, don't you?
Did you have him record a message for your answering machine? :D
Hey Star Boy, you and the Buck-minster Fuller look pretty good hangin' out together like a couple a regular swells! Ask him about the time REM played a 4 hour show inside of his newly designed Geodesic Dome, only to be shut down by The Police who then shouted "April Fools, we're not the real police, just a humble little rock band!" Then Peter replied, "Ha, really funny Police dudes, but I bet you can't make a cool homadey concert dome like I did!" Then The Police just bowed in awe.
(note to self; stop coffee now)
Love, Loki
I've always wondered...
Do artists appreciate the accolades from other artists more than sales or airplay?
I'm guessing "yes".
Is I wrong or right?
I like shoe shopping with celebreties. It is fun.
well what a splendid little story that is steven.
you never really mentioned what kind and types of shoes you two purchased, if any. i mean really, you're leaving crucial details out of the picture. it appears you guys are in one of those posh snobby "downtown" boutiques. those things really are not all that edgy, but sometimes they do have swell merchandise.
did you two get an ice cream together after the shopping?
i hope peter has a chance to catch that show of yours in seattle and gets some sleep between now and then.
stay black.

I find it interesting that you were making a post about shoe shopping on a day when I was seeing Patty Griffin. She talks about shoe shopping almost every time I see her. Maybe you SHOULD open for her after all. Just don't do that one song.
Key West has a place that makes hand made leather flip flops. I think that should be your new summer style!
Great story and so happy you enjoyed the experience! LOVE THE PIC!!! ROCK!
:)

I need to go shoe shopping in the next week or so. Steve, do you recommend loafers or the go-get-ems for a week long sales convention in Las Vegas? I prefer the loafers but my boss likes the go-get-ems. Your input would be very helpful.
Your friend,
Greg, the aching foot guy
Geez Steve, you really need to work on that English accent. You sound more like the crazy Australian in Wolf Creek! Just as well it hasnt altered by feelings for ya one iota. Oh! and nice photo from Steve of Taylor. Was that during sewing machine?
Ciao,
Em
