Thank You! (and lots of things to remember)

kriknme.jpg

I had so much fun at The Belly Up birthday bash show. But Jesus Christo, that was a lot of work. I want to thank everyone for traveling so far to be with friends. What a great group of friends we have. I was so tired Saturday that I just hung out with my AARP card. I'm very lucky to have such a rich group of friends and musicians. Sigh.

Some things to note:

1. The live recording of The Belly Up Birthday Bash show show is up online here at Fizzkicks.com!( The page takes a while to load as there are over a hundred of my live shows up online. So be patient)

2. I'll be on the radio live tomorrow Thursday Feb 25 from 8am to 9am on KPRI fm San Diego 102.1FM OR----- Stream it online live here: KPRI fm

3. I'll be on NPR's venerable Mountain Stage show this weekend. Most of the NPR stations will be airing the episode during this weekend of Feb 26 to 28. A complete list of stations that carry the show can be found here. The following week my set will be posted at NPR.org/mountainstage and archived for continued access.

4. Here's a review of The Belly Up show

Cool New T-shirts

23tshirt.jpg

So I was cruising around antique bookstores in Katoomba, Australia and I found this really expensive old book on penguins from the early 1900's.
85Pehguins.jpg
I said to myself "Dang Steve. That would make a really cool t-shirt. You should put it on a green American Apparel Tee and reference your new album 'Dreamhouse.'"
But then I said to myself "You idiot. What does a penguin have to do with a dreamhouse?"
Then I told that voice to shut up.
Then I took a pic of the book and had my friend in Halifax sketch it on a t-shirt. So here it is. It's available on this website or at the Belly Up show tomorrow.

Here's a preview of the show
See ya,
Steve

Update! Dreamhouse is ready to order! by mail or digital download

My new CD is done cookin'. It's ready for order right here on this very website. I went to Halifax, Nova Scotia and met award winning producer/ songwriter Joel Plaskett and formed a strong bond. We decided to make a record at his studio in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Recorded analog on 16 track 2 inch tape it has the "Dreamhouse" sound. It'll also be available on vinyl (yes! a record!) in a few more weeks. But the cd is freaking ready now! Order away. It's also ready to digitally download right now exclusively here. It'll be up on Itunes and other places in the next couple of weeks. If you're in San Diego it's at Lou's Records and M-Theory records.
The artwork was done by a Halifax artist named Rebecca Kraatz. Check out her website. She did a work for hire for me. Crazy cool woodburn art.
I'll let you know.
My hand hurts,
I got it re-set in a new stronger pink cast
the resetting part hurt bad in a good way/bad way
but I'm excited

Necessity is the mother of detention

pink-slide.jpg

And I am in hand detention. The show must go on? Last night I played at The Old Fire Hall in Rossland BC and I was somehow able to eke out 90 minutes on stage. It was mostly stories and then songs. I felt like I was starting over trying to fit a glass slide on my pointer finger and play the guitar in open tunings flat on my lap. It wasn't pretty but I made it through the night. At one point I had my friend Mark Pollard come up and play the chords with his left hand while I finger picked.

I have a lot to learn in the next 8 weeks of healing time. Shiza Minelli this sucks royally but what else am I going to do? Cancel shows? One time my friend Frag told me saw me play a show for 2 hours and I only did about 6 songs. But I wasn't forced into that. This time is different. So I'll do my best to weather my detention and then I'll be back with a vengeance like Chuck Norris.
Detentionally yours,
Steve

I broke my left hand!

break23.jpg
new-view.jpg

My fourth metacarpal has a spiral fracture. I did it skiing in Rossland, BC. I crashed and heard it break right when I hit the ground. So now here I sit totally bummed typing with my right hand like a chicken pecking at some bird seeds. I'm wearing bright pink cast on my left hand.
What does this mean for me and the upcoming shows?
Glad you asked.
It means that this Friday night's show in Rossland is just going to be stories and acapella stuff. I can't play guitar which is my favorite thing in the whole world. This hurts my heart real bad.

No shows will be canceled! The show must go on. My Belly Up Bday show WILL STILL HAPPEN! I'll be one of those guys in a band that just sings. Like Aerosmith? AC/DC? I don't know. I'll do my best. Once the cast comes off I'll have to do rehab work to get me back to normal. That's the way the skis tumble. At least I can still sing. And tell jokes and act like an idiot. The idiot part seems to come really easy to me.
Here's a pic of my pink cast.
cast.jpg

The diagnosis is "an undisplaced spiral fracture of the fourth metacarpal in tthe left hand and did not involve a joint"

I like the part that says "did not involve a joint." I guess that means I wasn't smoking weed.
I hope to see you beautiful friends and neighbors real soon.
Good thoughts,
Steverino (ski idiot who thinks he doesn't need his hands) Poltz
